The founder of CWG Plc, Mr. Austin Okere will speak as a key speaker on Financial Technology challenges and the future of banking at this year’s IE Africa Day Conference, scheduled to hold later this month.
The Conference, which has the theme ‘Digital Africa; Trasnforming the Continent’ will hold in Madrid, Spain and has other tech enthusiasts like Alon Lits, General Manager, Sub-Saharan Africa for Uber as a speaker.
Other speakers for the conference, which is being organized by IE Africa Club, Madrid Chapter are Grace Kimani, Business Development Manager at Wavenet, Angela Gichaga, Consultant at McKinsey Kenya and Tonje Bankang, Co-Founder & Chief Executive Officer at Afrostream.
According to a statement signed by Mrs. Anthonia Ehanmo, Head of Brand and Marketing Communications at CWG Plc, the CWG’s Founder and Entrepreneur in Residence, Columbia Business School, New York will use the opportunity the conference provides to analyse some of the inherent challenges, as well as opportunities of Fintech, which is presently the kid on the block.
‘The promise of Fintech is great. It is shaking up a stodgy banking system and helping to build a more efficient one, especially for consumers and small businesses, but there has emerged a powerful force of challenge from Financial Technology companies or FINTECHs, as they are more popularly referred to,” the statement noted.
It added that Fintech is gaining traction all over the world, citing the example of Yello Mobile Account, jointly offered by Nigeria’s largest system integration company, CWG Plc in partnership with telecom giant MTN and Diamond Bank. The Yello Mobile Account added over 6million accounts to an early adopter within the first year of launch, contributing immensely to Africa’s Mobile Money services that is today generating 6.7 percent to its GDP.
The Africa Day Conference is an annual Conference, which allows current students to network with African professionals and those with business experience on the continent and to learn about business and career opportunities from the speakers and other attendees. This year, IE Africa Day will showcase the latest developments and share how people can succeed in business in Africa.
